West
Africa has such great diversity that an adventure holiday in this culturally
rich corner of Africa is like no other. The region boasts sun drenched
beaches and tropical rainforests, the landscapes and architecture of
the Sahel and the seemingly never-ending expanse of the Sahara desert.
Our tours in West Africa encourage you to immerse yourself into this
welcoming environment and positively interact with the local communities
whilst appealing to all your senses through its music, sights, smells
and cuisine.

Countries we Visit
Kumuka’s West African tours focus on Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina
Faso and Mali. We explore the mysterious beliefs associated with Voodoo.
We visit the museums and monuments to the slave trade and discover the
truth behind one of the darkest periods in human history. We witness
the master drummers at work in both Ghana and Mali and relax on the
beaches of Ghana. We walk with the elephants in Mole National Park and
hike with our local guide through the fascinating Dogon region of Mali.
Timbuktu does exist and we trace one of the great ancient trading routes
of the world to the famous desert town and the gateway to the Sahara.

Small Group Tours
Our West African small group tours carry a maximum of 12 clients in
air-conditioned vehicles. This ensures not only your comfort on driving
days but added security and a genuinely intimate experience due to our
smaller group size. These tours stay in local campsites whenever possible,
and although at times they are rustic, the commerce that our visits
provide will enable these places to grow and the communities that they
support to prosper. We may even occasionally bush camp. This will usually
involve visiting the local chief and asking permission to camp, or on
our journey along the Niger River, we will find a comfortable area of
sand and get set for one of the greatest shows on earth - the night
sky in the Sahara.

Community Projects
West Africa moves to a rhythm of its own, and its population
have a commitment to their communities and the environment that is commendable.
Eco-tourism has been embraced by many villages, and this has allowed
these places and their citizens to tackle both economic and environmental
pressures that everyday life in West Africa presents. We support these
projects with our patronage whenever it is possible and pride ourselves
on our commitment to sustainable tourism in the region. By supporting
these projects we are giving something back to Africa whilst also getting
close to the cultural heartbeat of West Africa.
Our tours in West Africa are for people who want to see a raw and underdeveloped
region of Africa. We have structured the tours to provide you with a
high level of comfort, and with the assistance of our home grown local
guides you will gain a greater understanding of the diverse cultures
of West Africa. These tours are more than just a visit to West Africa
– they are the adventure of a lifetime.
