Essential Equipment List

Luggage should be restricted to a frameless backpack, which must not weigh more than 20kgs (ideal – 15kg). We recommend a backpack over a suitcase for ease of transportation.

  • Passport/Tickets/Vaccination Certificates/Spare Passport Photos/Travel Insurance Policy/Student ID/Copies of Passport, Visa and Insurance (better still, scan these and email it to your web-based email account for access anywhere in the world)
  • Money Belt

  • Swiss army knife

  • Universal sink plug/Laundry Soap
  • Student ID (if applicable)
  • I-pod/MP3/Discman
  • Pens
  • Batteries for anything you have that does not take standard AA or AAA batteries (these are easily available)
  • Heat Proof Mug, own tea/coffee/creamer/sugar
  • Electrical adapters (Russia and Mongolia use standard 220V European plugs. China uses 110v American-style flat pin plugs)
  • Ear Plugs
  • Ladies should bring a headscarf as it is required in all churches, mosques and temples
  • Handy to bring toilet roll/tissues
  • Day Pack


CLOTHES & FOOTWEAR

  • Underwear/socks

  • Long trousers and jog pants for lounging around the train
  • Sweaters/Jumpers
  • Shorts (summer)
  • T-shirts and Long sleeved T-Shirts
  • Warm jacket, hat, scarf and gloves in winter
  • 1 smart/casual outfit for evenings out
  • 1 Waterproof/windproof jacket
  • Solid shoes with ridged sole
  • Trainers
  • If trekking or travelling in winter, hard soled boots are a MUST
  • Flip Flops/Thongs/Jandals
