Central America Discovery - CA25
Introduction: Travelling through Mexico from Mexico City, the largest and busiest capital on earth, to Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean coast , we explore the greatest of the ancient Mayan, Aztec and Zapotec sites, learn about ancient civilisations and indigenous people and how to cook Mexican style. Our route then runs along the beautiful turquoise coastline to the coral cayes in Belize, before heading inland to explore the Mayan caves of San Ignacio where pottery and the skulls of ancient sacrifices can be seen. Flying to Guatemala City we continue by road to the picturesque colonial town of Antigua, stay near the shores of Lake Atitlan and explore the famous markets of Chichicastenango. We then wind our way through Honduras and Nicaragua. We relax on the beaches of the Caribbean Bay Islands and visit Cerro Azul Meambar National Park with its huge biodiversity of species and ecosystems, tropical forest, pine forest and cloud forest. Crossing into Nicaragua we stay in the ancient capital of Leon before exploring colonial Granada and the Masaya Volcano, followed by two nights on the beautiful island of Ometepe.
